Shroomies

A personal illustration series that I initially started as a way to promote joy, well-being, and community through a series of characters doing wholesome activities together. I have cultivated this through stickers and prints which I have been promoting and have been notably accepted into the Vancouver Vending Co. machine—a project promoting local artists.

Where It Started

This brand came out of a practice where I enjoy enjoy putting together words to see what happens. While I was doing this I had stumbled into the combination of shroom and roomie. Which sparked a Craigslist style ad where Timothee (who came to be known as the face of these works) was looking for a roomie.

What I had in mind for this series was an “80s Saturday morning cartoon” aesthetic. I wanted the faded quality that came with that era of television along with the vibrant colors. The authenticity of Risograph along with the unique printing qualities made it a good match.

To Market

I brought the Shroomies to life through prints and stickers, taking the extra step to make the packaging a part of the experience. I made custom tags for any sticker packs I took to markets during the summer of 2022 in efforts to promote this brand. During the markets I attended I broke even, as a first time market vendor in Vancouver I was told that is a rare feat.

City News wanted to talk to artists about their work in the Vancouver Vending Co. machine. I took this opportunity to promote the brand and it’s themes.
